coming."

Final Fantasy XIV is currently being developed for Xbox 360 but remains
unannounced due to Square-Enix's negotation with Microsoft over server use.
Could Final Fantasy XIII Versus be the price Microsoft is demanding for
Square-Enix to use their own servers?

I have to wonder how desperate Square Enix must be for sales if
they're actually giving this serious consideration. Final Fantasy XIII
was of course panned all around for what many thought were flaws in
the game design, but specifically the Xbox 360 version was laughed at
by many gamers for its inferiority to the PlayStation 3 version.

While the Xbox 360 version enjoyed a decent sales total of 1.3
million, the PlayStation 3 version tripled that with 4 million in
sales despite having a smaller install base.

Was there interest in Square's flagship property amongst 360 owners?
Sure. Was it enough to warrant porting over more of this strangely
broad chapter in the license? I suppose if Square is really taking it
in the ass from a financial standpoint.

2M sales is 2M sales, and FF13 with 6M total sales is still not paying for
its massive cost. Square took a bath on it.

And stop making it sound like the PS13 version was good. It was just as bad.

2 million? That's pretty generous of you to tack on an extra 50%
there. While you're right that sales are sales, the same thing could
be said for any exclusive - by your reasoning, there isn't a whole lot
of point in keeping games like Mass Effect, Alan Wake, Gears of War,
etc. exclusive, either - the several million units that Gears of War
would sell on the PS3 should be worth it, no? (Yes, I know it's
published by Microsoft - I'm speaking from a hypothetical.)

Your acknowledgment of the cost versus revenue for FF13 is accurate,
but that really only applies to FF13. There's certainly a not
insignificant amount of cost that went into creating the Xbox 360
port.

PS13? You're jumping way too far into the future, buddy.

I at no point implied in any way, shape or form that the PS3 version
"was good." I simply pointed out that triple the number of units as
the 360 version were sold and that the PS3 version is universally
across the board considered a significantly superior version of the
game. Whether the story, the gameplay, etc. are any good is an
entirely different matter - but the presentation and the graphics are
definitely superior on the PS3 version so your statement that the PS3
version "was just as bad" is inherently and undeniably wrong.

Apparently not when you look at the sales figures.

I just wished there were no exclusives for anything, PS3, 360 or PSP,
DS. Just release the games multiplatform and let people decide where
they want to play the game on.

That's where many people in the industry see the industry heading.
Most think that perhaps even as soon as next generation there will no
longer be third-party exclusives since the cost of development has
skyrocketed to the point where it's no longer fiscally viable for most
publishers to ignore one of the two systems.

That's on the console side. With the handhelds, it's very different
since the capabilities and interfaces of the two are so very
different. Many games on the DS couldn't possibly work on the PSP due
to the user interactions, and many games on the PSP couldn't possibly
work on the DS because the PSP's goal is to mimic the console
experience but just in your hand. The DS is trying to bring truly
unique gaming experiences to the foray whereas the PSP is trying to
appeal to gamers who want the better looking, more traditional style
of game.

Considering how expensive games are to develop now a days, this isn't
really a surprise to anyone, is it?
