Bloodrayne combos?

I just rented this one (yes I found out it went on sale for $5 at
circuit city, boo hoo)

I've got no manual.

I can't seem to figure out how you are supposed to do the weapon
combos.

I just finished this game...Throughout the game, you will gain level
2,3,4, and 5 attacks...You don't really use these combos...she just does
them...All you have to do is keep hitting that L1 button to use the
blade attacks--she does the rest, and the effects are the same but the
attacks look cooler and more sophisticated. However, as you advance
through the levels, there are some tougher enemies that are capable of
blocking your attacks, so you have to attack them from behind--during
those encounters, just be sure to keep moving as you attack so you
strike from the correct angle. Use the R2 button to select the guns you
want to use, and R1 to fire.

That's not really a 'combo' then is it, it's just an attack. I was
thinking I had to hit different buttons to get what I wanted (like l1
+ jump, or some direction or something) no wonder I was having such a
hard time trying to get different attacks.

I guess I had it all figured out, but thought there was more to it
than that. sigh.
