It is mind-numbingly amazing how so many nitwits have gotten the term
'pre-rendered' so screwed up and out of whack that it is now like the
proverbial mixing up "your" and "you're" on Usenet, which are two words
with two completely different meanings.
Those TGS2005 demos were not 'pre-rendered CGI', they were 'target
renders' run on Devkits, just not at gameplay framerates and not being
shown real-time. They had everything cranked on, something you would
not do in a release game, and they were run at 1 to 5 frames per
second, with screen captures being turned into movies.
The same demos at GDC were being run real-time at gameplay framerates,
so that is why a lot of features were 'tuned down'. Plus Sony said they
were several months old at this point. They are not going to show the
very latest at GDC. GDC is for game developers, not the press or
consumer media. E3 is not totally open either but it has become a major
press event over the years, so it is going to be when you see the
almost latest and greatest. Even at E3, the versions of things being
shown are not necessarily going to represent the very latest
development level, close but not exactly. GDC is too small and
specialized to bring out the big guns.
Post by A***@gmail.comI believe these are all real-time, running on Cell and Nvidia's RSX

but if they prove to be yet more pre-rendered CGI, feel free to shoot
me or hang me.
